Mr. Boombastic to Perform Live In DUBAI

Dubai, 16th May, 2007

Following the success of LIFE Music Festival’s first concert that featured legendary R&B group, Boyz II Men, Vibe today announced that Grammy-winning reggae superstar, Shaggy, is set to continue livening things up for the 2nd LIFE Music Festival, planned to be the biggest indoor music festival series in the region. Shaggy will be performing in Dubai on Thursday 7th June at the Madinat Areena, Madinat Jumeirah from 9:00 pm onwards.

“The launch of the LIFE Music Festival was a resounding success and this shows that people in Dubai are constantly eager for new entertainment concepts” said Yassin Matbouly, managing director of Vibe Middle East, the event management agency. “We have managed to bring reggae superstar, Shaggy, for our second LIFE event and we are confident that he is going to put on an outstanding performance on stage. Shaggy is known to be a master of many styles - from reggae and dance to pop and R&B – so every kind of music fan in Dubai will definitely have a good time.”

Shaggy’s international success began in 1993 with the release of his debut album, Pure Pleasure, which featured “Oh Carolina”, one of the biggest hit singles in U.K pop history and the first worldwide reggae crossover record to come out of the New York dancehall underground. His 1995 Boombastic album proved Shaggy’s position as a consistent hit maker, winning the 1996 Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album while the title track topped Billboard’s Reggae, R&B and Rap charts. It also became the #1 selling single and hit #3 on Billboard’s Hot 100 Single Charts.

Following his breakout success with an extensive world tour, Shaggy released his third album, Midnite Love in 1997. By then, Shaggy’s diverse pop, reggae, and R&B listeners had been firmly established. In 2000, the reggae superstar released his massively successful MCA album, Hot Shot, with its global number one singles, “It Wasn’t Me” and “Angel”. With a six-week run at number one on the album charts, over six million albums were sold in the U.S. alone. Having earned a host of Grammys and awards, Shaggy is considered to be one of the most successful reggae/pop artists worldwide.

“Shaggy’s previous concert in Dubai was extremely successful and fans accustomed to Shaggy’s well-known party vibe had a great time,” said Matbouly. “Ever since his last performance, we have received a lot of requests to bring the reggae superstar again to Dubai, and this is exactly what we are doing.” said Matbouly.

The Life Music Festival doors will open at 7pm and the live music concert will begin at 9 pm on the night. The organisers request that attendees do not drive and use taxis for a safer journey.
