STOMP Out Loud in Dubai

Dubai, 20th May 2007

Vibe, the event management agency, today announced that the award-winning international hit show, STOMP, will be performing live for the first time in the UAE. STOMP has been packing audiences worldwide for over 10 years with a unique musical performance that uses everyday objects including brooms, bins and water to create extraordinary percussive music. STOMP will be performing at the MPV, Madinat Jumeirah, on the 18th of October 2007.

“STOMP is going to be a mind blowing show that people should definitely not miss,” said Yassin Matbouly, managing director of Vibe Middle East. “STOMP’s performance is known to be outstanding, creative and extremely entertaining; the energy and enthusiasm the talented cast members of STOMP bring to the stage is something really worth shouting about. It’s also an amazing family show”

STOMP, a unique art performance that combines percussion, movement and visual comedy, was created in 1991 in Brighton, UK. The result of 10 year collaboration between its creators Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas, STOMP started off as street entertainment on the streets of Brighton in 1981. STOMP was formed around members of the street band Pookiesnackenburger and the theatre group Cliff Hanger. Together these groups presented a series of street comedy musicals and ended up producing albums, a UK TV series and touring extensively throughout Europe. The award-winning ‘Bins’ commercial for Heineken, originally written and choreographed by Luke as part of the band’s stage show, proved to be the starting point for STOMP’s overwhelming and successful dustbin dance to go international.

Previewed at London’s Bloomsbury Theatre and premiered at the Assembly rooms in Edinburgh in 1991, STOMP became the Guardian Newspaper’s ‘Critic’s choice’ and won the Daily Express ‘Best of the Fringe’ award. Since then, STOMP has been a sell out worldwide and is still running strong, receiving a number of awards including the Drama Desk award for ‘Most Unique Theatre Experience’ and ‘Best Choreography’.

STOMP builds a relationship between dance and music; the entire show is highly choreographed and combines the movement of bodies, objects and sounds to create a unique and innovative experience. It also breaks the customary boundaries of performing arts by inviting the audience to participate and explore the rhythm and sound in everyday things. The energy, imagination and talents used in creating rhythms of every volume and complexity by using the most basic objects is what STOMP is all about.

“We are so excited in bringing STOMP to the UAE, this show has been a sell out across the world,” added Matbouly. “I saw the show back in London more than 3 times, and I am still convinced that there is nothing like it in the world, STOMP is a very unique high energy show and we’ve managed to bring it to Dubai; we are flying in a crew of over 30 people including the best designers to handle the production and set up.”

“3,000 tickets are going to be on sale for the first show and I am sure those tickets will sell in no time,” added Matbouly.
